~Tips for
Stopping Spam~
Help get rid of
unwanted spam from your inbox!
I have had my share of horrible unwanted spam, so I thought I would share some tips and tricks. I have learnt the hard way these tips to avoid spam, so I thought this would be helpful to anyone who gets annoying spam, or for you to pass it on to your friends and family who might not know how to avoid it in the first place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Never post your main personal email address anywhere on the internet. This includes message boards, newsgroups and the one I find really bad are contests. Try using a hotmail or a yahoo account that come with built in spam filters. 2. Watch where you buy from online. Some companies will spam you forever once you have purchased something from them and they get a hold of your address. Check their policies. 3. If you have a web site, or an online journal, do not put up your main email address. I have a contact link below that you can see what I have done to work around this problem. It seems to have helped. Make sure you do not put your email address into your meta tags. 4. NEVER ever reply to a spam email. Most of the time they will be bounced back to you, but sometimes this just verifies that you read your spam! This is what they want, so they sell your email address as a confirmed active account. Also never click on spam links that say "click here to be removed..." for the very same reason. 5. Never buy anything, even if it is something you really want from a spam email. It just encourages them that spam works. There are legitimate companies out there that do not spam, and you can find what you need from one of them. 6. Another annoying email problem is the "forward this one on" email. This one is my pet peeve. They come mostly from unknowing family or friends who think they are doing you a favor by sending this stuff to you. Here is a great link to send to those family members or friends who keep sending you these emails, and if you are one of those people who forward everything check here first! http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/ or http://www.vmyths.com/ 7. The bad news is, once you start getting a lot of spam, they have your address and it never ends! There are hundreds of spam filters you can try and buy out there, works for me! :) If all else fails, change your email address, and start fresh. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Please
feel free to take this little bear and place it on your
site. You can link it back to this page
